READING
The big focus in first grade is on reading. First grade is where children learn to read and we will do a lot of reading. According to research, the number one thing you can do to help your child have a successful year is to read with them every night!

MATHMath in first grade is foundational for their future growth. I want your child to have a strong foundation to build upon in the coming years. We will learn to count to 120 by ones, twos, fives and tens. We study addition, subtraction, and place value. We learn how to tell time to the hour and half hour, how to count coins and how to read and construct graphs. Much of our learning is "hands on" and requires a great deal of repetition.

LEARNING TOGETHER
Your child will also be participating in group activities known as the Daily 5. These cooperative learning experiences reinforce our learning in a safe, encouraging environment. Because students work in groups, attendance is important. The benefits of The Daily 5 include the following:
